HAF 69: Ron Shelton chalk on slate
High Art Fridays (HAF) 69: ron shelton chalk on slate
This is the first collective showing of my chalk “doodle” on slate blackboard. Not sure now, what exactly was the nudge on the shoulder or the bulb of light in my head that stirred this unusual artistic medium to concentrate, study and transfer from doodles to slate.
I have been collecting my doodles for many years, after first noticing the impact that had on my subconscious thinking moments. Usually I gather a doodle rush while I was preoccupied with a close to mindless task of talking on the telephone. Usually it was an undesirable task with a creditor, utilitarian, or some other business related dialogue. When I first notice the repetition of shapes and symbols, I knew I stumbled on to something nice.
January 3 of 2015 was when I drove to Cleveland to purchase my 54″ x 48″ 100 lb slab of slate that once was used in a public school classroom. The process of how I got this heavy board from my jeep to my second story apartment is close to miracle: using my office chair with rotary wheels to support this board as I carefully scooted it along my crack ridden concrete sidewalk, then convincing a neighbor to help me carry it up the steps.
I have been transferring my doodles onto this surface in a collection of close to 75 individual chalk drawing.
